A collection of nice stories, well written but lacking the playful poetry of The Last Unicorn, or its remarkable insight. These stories are straightforward (The Rock in the Park is a story that tells us art is magic by presenting us with a piece of art that is magic) and very feel-good-y (there are at least three stories in which the monster befriends the people it is supposed to hurt, death is circumvented, etc).
